SUBJECT: Puma Info October 24th

OCTOBER 24th, 2021

Pass the Hat, Pass the Love!

We have until Wednesday 27th Hurry up and Pass the Hat!

Help us to achieve our goal, we just have tree more days to go and a big gap to cover!

From October 18th till the 27th, we'll be collecting donations to support our students, school, and staff.

Our goal this year is to raise $50,000. We suggest a $125 contribution per student. Funds raised will go to support your child's classroom and specialist teachers, enrichment programs, scholarships, community programs such as our Back to School Party, and much more!!

How can you donate?

1. Log into your account at www.rosaparksptsa.org. You do not need to be a PTSA member to have an account.
2. Update your family information so that your child's current teacher is listed as their teacher. This will ensure donations made to your student will be credited towards their teacher's classroom total.
3. Go to "My forms/paperwork" to find the link to your student's fundraising page. You can edit to customize it or leave it as is.
4. Share the link to your student's fundraising page with family and friends!

5. Donate on your student's fundraising page.

Prizes

Participation: every student who participates in the pledge, regardless of the amount donated, would get a Puma Keychain!

Individual: Every student who receives at least $125 in pledge will receive a Puma Stuffy!

Top 3 classes: Get to silly string the Principal!

Top Grade: Gets extra recess time!

Top 3 students: Get to be Principal for the day!

School-wide reaches $50,000 in pledges: PTSA will sponsor an outdoor movie night for the whole school community to celebrate in the Spring!

Don't forget about Corporate Matching!

Halloween Green Tips

Hello Rosa Parks families!

The Sustainability Committee is happy to be back this year to continue working on reaching our school’s goals to reduce waste and help our students learn ways to take care of our Planet. Here are some ideas to help prepare for a Low-Waste Halloween!

Many students are probably thinking about what they want to dress up as for Halloween. Most costumes unfortunately are made with synthetic fabric and plastic props and are only used once before ending up in the landfill. Here are ways to have fun creating your costumes while working toward sustainability.

1 - ‘Shop’ in your own closet - Go around your home for supplies and create a costume without buying anything new.

2 - Ask Around - Check with friends or neighbors to see if they have costumes/props/supplies you can borrow.

3- Buy secondhand – Thrift Shopping (ex: Small Threads in Redmond) helps give items a new life.

Updated Volunteer Requirements

Rosa Parks is happy to welcome our volunteers back into our school. At this time, volunteers are allowed in the building, but not in the classrooms or shared learning spaces.

LWSD is following Governor Inslee’s vaccination mandate regarding K-12 volunteers. As of October 18, volunteers in our schools will have to be vaccinated. There are now two ways for volunteers to show proof of vaccination. These will be available until at least Oct. 18: In-person and Remote through Microsoft Teams. Visit this link to learn more.

As a reminder, all volunteers will need to be an approved LWSD volunteer, follow the current masking and physical distancing requirements, and sign in at the school office.

If you have any questions about your approval status, please contact Chris Robison. If you’ve let your volunteer approval status lapse or you need to apply for the first time, please fill out the online application.

Corporate Matching!

Many local companies match donations to non-profit organizations so you can get your donations matched. Please check with your employer to find out if the money you donate to the Rosa Parks Elementary PTSA can be matched.
